Police recover abducted infant hours after disappearance in Mamprobi

A baby stolen from Mamprobi Polyclinic has been safely recovered following what authorities describe as a rapid, coordinated security response, with a female suspect now in police custody.

The infant was allegedly taken from the health facility on Tuesday, 18 February, sparking panic among hospital staff and the child’s family and triggering an immediate search.

The Ghana Police Service said it launched an operation shortly after receiving a report of the suspected abduction, mobilising officers and working with community members to trace the child’s whereabouts.

Police have yet to disclose the identity of the suspect as investigations continue to determine the circumstances of the incident, including how she gained access to the baby inside the facility.

Authorities say the recovery effort was supported by the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, who helped coordinate between police, community leaders and the distressed family.

The lawmaker accompanied officials to the clinic after the infant was found to ensure the child’s safe return.

On arrival, medical staff at the facility immediately assessed the baby’s health. Doctors confirmed the infant is stable and receiving precautionary treatment under close observation.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, also visited the clinic following the recovery, expressing relief and commending the swift intervention by police and local stakeholders.

Officials say investigations remain ongoing as police work to establish a full account of the incident and prevent similar breaches at health facilities.
