The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for a group of individuals identifying themselves as the NDC Youth of Obuasi after a video of them threatening violence during the 2024 general elections went viral.

In the video, the group issued threats that have been described as inflammatory and disruptive to the country’s peace.

The police have labeled their actions as offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, a violation under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service emphasized its commitment to maintaining law and order as the elections approach.

“We wish to state that the behavior of the group constitutes the offence of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). A police operation is currently ongoing to have them arrested to face justice,” the statement read.

The police urged the public to assist in identifying the individuals involved to ensure they are brought to justice.

“We encourage citizens to report any information that could lead to their apprehension. We remain resolute in ensuring that the 2024 elections are conducted in a peaceful and lawful environment,” the statement concluded.
