Police on manhunt for man who allegedly murdered his girlfriend and two children in Ashanti Region

Some residents who made the shocking discovery on Monday night (29 January) told Asaase News that there were indications that the suspect committed the crime the previous day (Sunday 28 January)

Police in the Ashanti Region are actively searching for one Shadrack, a 30-year-old man accused of brutally killing three people, including his girlfriend, Portia Yerebe, and a two-week-old baby, at Asuoso in the Offinso North District.

The other victim is reported to be the suspect’s four-year-old stepson. Some residents who made the shocking discovery on Monday night told Asaase News that there were indications that the suspect committed the crime the previous day.

Police officers were later called to the scene and are already picking leads to get the suspect arrested. The bodies have been conveyed to the morgue as investigations continue.

Immediate past assemblyman for the area, Alfred Wiafe said, “We are yet to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident, but the lady was discovered dead when we went there. We saw a hammer and a machete at the crime scene. We also found a note and we immediately reported the matter to the police.”

“We are searching for the suspect now. The police say investigations have commenced. But I fault the residents in the neighbourhood because this incident occurred for nearly 48 hours and it is quite shocking that this has now come to the limelight”, he said.

The bizarre incident has shocked residents who have called for justice.

The Ashanti Region in recent times has been recording series of murder cases raising serious concerns about security in the country’s second most populous area.

In 2021, the region recorded the highest number of murder cases having recorded at least 72 cases. Of these, 68 were males while five were female, according to the data from the Statistics Research and Monitoring Unit (SRMU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

The data showed that, some 306 murder cases were reported to the police from 1 January to 30 June that year.
