Police officer, school matron and sister arrested over alleged diversion of Wovenu SHTS food supplies

Three persons, including a police officer and an assistant matron of Wovenu Senior High Technical School at Tadzewu in the Ketu North Municipality, have been arrested in connection with the alleged diversion of food items meant for students of the school.

The suspects, identified as, Doris Foli, the school’s Assistant Matron, her sister Perfect Foli and a police officer were apprehended at about 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.

They were intercepted by the Assembly Member for the area, Patrick Meli Atipoe, together with some vigilant community members while allegedly transporting assorted food items believed to have been taken from the school’s food stock.

The Diverted items were being conveyed in a vehicle belonging to the police officer, who was reportedly driving at the time of the arrest.

The retrieved items included bags of rice, cartons of milk and mackerel, tins of tomatoes and fish, as well as gallons of cooking oil (Frytol) and other provisions intended specifically for the feeding of students under the school’s feeding programme. Initial information suggests that the alleged practice may have been ongoing for some time.

The suspects were initially handed over to the Tadzewu Police but were subsequently transferred to the Dzodze Police Station for further investigations.

They are currently in police custody assisting with inquiries.
Reacting to the development, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, Rev. Martin Amenaki, confirmed the incident and stated that he had personally visited the Dzodze Police Station upon receiving the report to acquaint himself with the situation and ensure due process was being followed.

Rev. Amenaki assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable would face the full rigours of the law. He stressed that food supplies provided to schools are meant exclusively for the welfare and nourishment of students and warned that any attempt to divert or misappropriate such resources would not be tolerated.

“This incident should serve as a strong warning to anyone who seeks to undermine government efforts to ensure that students within our Municipality and beyond are adequately fed and supported,” he stated.

The Ketu North Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Mahama Administration, has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public resources and enforcing accountability at all levels. Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
