Police officer, eyewitness killed in bullion van attack

A police officer guarding a bullion van has been killed by armed robbers on Monday at James Town in Accra, the Accra police command has confirmed.

Eyewitness report and amateur video yet to be verified by Asaaseradio.com show the police guard lying in a pool of blood at the front seat of the bullion van.

Speaking to the media, Accra Regional police spokesperson, ASP Afia Tenge, confirmed that a young lady who witnessed the robbery incident was also killed in the process while the driver of the van sustained severe injuries.

An eyewitness said the gunmen sped on three motorbikes after the shooting incident. The robbers escaped with unspecified amount of money.

The driver of the bullion van is receiving medical attention at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
