The two are Stephen Kumi, the supposed boyfriend of the alleged victim, and a radio presenter who first published the story

The police in the Western Region have arrested two people in connection with what they say might be yet another fake kidnapping involving one Stephane Kumiwaa aged 26.

The two are Stephen Kumi, the supposed boyfriend of the alleged victim and a radio presenter who first published the story.

A statement signed by the head of public affairs of the Regional Police Command, DSP Olivia Eurabena Adiku, said the district command at Mpohor where the lady is said to reside has not received any complaint of a possible kidnapping or missing person case.

According to the statement, the supposed boyfriend, Kumi, during interrogation said he met Stephanie on Facebook and started dating.

He also informed the police on 19 October, three days after Stephanie failed to show up on a planned visit to Takoradi where he stays, he received a call from one Sandra that Stephanie has been kidnapped and that the kidnappers are demanding a GHC2,000 ransom.

The police said checks at Mpohor Police District Command indicated that no such case had been reported there.
The radio presenter has been granted a police inquiry bail while Kumi is still in custody. They are both assisting with further investigations.
