PNC targets five parliamentary seats in 7 December election

The Western regional chairman of the People’s National Convention says the party is poised for victory in the 7 December general election

Ghana News Agency (Takoradi) – Mallam Yakubu Tahiru, Western regional chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), says the party is determined to secure five parliamentary seats in the 7 December elections.

“I know for sure that the party cannot win the presidential race for now and that is my opinion. If you want to be great, you need to come down first, so I am ready to work hard for the party,” he said.

Mallam Yakubu expressed the hope that the current elected candidates would ignite some passion and enthusiasm among leaders and members of the party to give it a renewed sense of purpose.

He noted that the lack of good, hard-working leaders to lead the PNC is the biggest challenge the party has been struggling with.

He called on the party’s rank and file to work hard to bring all the scattered members together.

Advising members to desist from the politics of insult and avoid factionalism, he said they will not allow the PNC to achieve anything meaningful. Rather, they must resort to hard work, dedication and commitment without inducement.

The PNC, which fits in with the Nkrumah-Egala-Limann tradition, had planned to hold its national congress earlier in the Western Region in honour of Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who is a native of the region.

The plan was rescinded because of the restrictions on mass gatherings.

However, more than 4,000 delegates from across the 16 regions took part in selecting a new flagbearer for the party.

Dawn of an era

Meanwhile, the new flagbearer of the PNC, David Apasera, has extended an invitation to young people and to other Ghanaians who may be struggling to join other political parties to consider the PNC as their choice in the December elections.

“We are going to hit the ground running because it is very belated.

“We are left with just three months to go. So I call on all PNC members, all others who are on the sidelines, and all those struggling to join other parties, that the PNC is open to all,” Apasera said.
