“I look forward to working with your government” – Biden to Akufo-Addo

The president-elect of the United States of America, Joseph R Biden Jr, has told his Ghanaian counterpart that he looks forward to working with President Akufo-Addo and his government to address problems that the US and Ghana share in common.

In a personal letter from the office of the US president-elect that was signed by Biden, the former vice-president said: “It is my great honor to have been elected the next president of the United States.

“Vice President-elect Harris and I will take office at a time of great global challenges – from the coronavirus to climate change – that transcend borders and require international cooperation.

“We look forward to working with you and your government on addressing the common problems facing our countries and our peoples,” the president-elect said.

President-Elect Biden and the US vice-president-elect, Kamala Harris, won the presidential election held on 3 November 2020, defeating the incumbent, President Donald Trump. It is expected that they will be sworn into office on 20 January 2021.

President-Elect Akufo-Addo and Vice President-Elect Mahamudu Bawumia, for their part, won the presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana on 7 December 2020 and are due to be sworn into office for a second term in office on Thursday, 7 January.
