Ghana’s eighth parliament of the Fourth Republic will be dissolved officially today, 6 January 2025, to pave the way for the inauguration of the ninth
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, is presiding over the final session and dissolution of Ghana’s eighth parliament.
Parliament is dissolved following the December 2024 national elections and the formation of a new parliament.
The eighth parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana began in January 2021. It will hold its final session today (6 January 2025), marking the completion of its legislative activity.
The dissolution of Parliament is a constitutional procedure that prepares for the establishment of a new parliament. Following the election of MPs in the December 2024 general election, the new legislature will be sworn in and the President of Ghana will establish a new administration.
