AU Chair and President of Comoros, Azali Assoumani, endorses 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogues

In his dual capacity as Chairman of the African Union (AU) and President of the Union of Comoros, His Excellency Azali Assoumani met with the Executive Chairman,  Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Africa Prosperity Network (APN), Njack Kane, on Tuesday, 15 November 2023, ahead of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD), slated to take place from 25 to 27 of January 2024.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Accra Reparations Conference ongoing in Ghana and was attended by APN’s Deputy chief executive officer (deputy CEO) Prince Moses Ofori-Atta and the General Manager of APN, Stephanie Diatta.

Presenting the next Africa Prosperity Dialogues to President Azali Assoumani, acting CEO of APN, Njack Kane spoke about the urgency underpinning the choice of the theme for the next Dialogues. “Moving in tandem with the Africa Continental Area Secretariat’s objectives of a single African market, our theme for 2024, which is Delivering Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, Trade, focuses on adding value to Africa’s economy, in order to make what we trade among ourselves within the single market project more meaningful”.

Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) is organized by the Africa Prosperity Network (APN) and the Africa Continental Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Africa, African Development Bank (AfDB), Afreximbank, United Nations Economic Forum for Africa (UNECA), Africa Business Council (AfBC), Africa America Institute (AAI), among other major strategic private sector partners and sponsors.

“At the last Dialogues, a compact was generated and presented to the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

“The adoption of the compact by the African Union marked a strong relationship between the Africa Prosperity Network and the African Union in joint effort to drive African economic integration.

“Aside from the participation of African economies in these Dialogues, Global Africa or the African Diaspora, which is officially considered as Africa’s sixth region by the African Union will be represented,” Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko said when he addressed the AU chair.

President Azali Assoumani in response said “As Chairman of the African Union, we share a common value in our work towards Africa’s economic integration, and these Dialogues provide an opportunity to explore our common interests, especially with the participation of both the public and private sectors.

“As President of the Union of Comoros, I am working towards making my country an integral part of the AfCFTA by creating strategic platforms that boost trade across the region. This is why I intend to be present at the Dialogues in January, as I consider this important gathering as not only critical but timely” President Azali Assoumani stated.

APN

APD 2023 (dubbed The Kwahu Summit) was attended by over 700 leading Africans and produced an outcome document which was presented at the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly for adoption. It was presented by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana.
