PICTURES: Archbishop of Canterbury visits Otumfuo at Manhyia

The ceremonial head of the Anglican Communion worldwide honoured Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with a citation and the prestigious St Augustine Cross

The Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace Justin Welby, together with his wife, Caroline, paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Saturday (11 February).

The ceremonial head of the Anglican Communion worldwide awarded Otumfuo Osei Tutu II the prestigious St Augustine Cross and a citation for his contribution to the Church and Ghana.

The cross is an award of merit given by the Archbishop of Canterbury, given to members of the Anglican Communion who have made significant contributions to the life of the worldwide communion, or to a particular autonomous church within Anglicanism.

The last person to be given the cross was Queen Elizabeth II, now deceased. It is the highest award within the Anglican Communion.
