BoG’s new head office to accommodate West Africa Monetary Zone, says Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

The Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs have described the venture as misplaced priority due to the prevailing economic situation

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has said the construction of a new ultra-modern head office for the Bank of Ghana (BoG) is expected to accommodate the West Africa Monetary Zone.

The Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs have described the venture as misplaced priority due to the prevailing economic situation.

But speaking to Accra based Oman Fm, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the building of the new head office is strategic hence the need to desist from politicising it.

“The concerns of the minority is misplaced. The BoG has been in parliament to already explain why it is building a new head office,” the Minority Leader said.

“The West African Monetary Zone has been relocated to Ghana and it operates within the precincts of BoG but that has not been possible because of the limited space at the BoG. So the building of the new head office is expected to address this as well.”

He added “Also, the countries in West Africa have thrown their weight behind Ghana to host the headquarters of the secretariat to deal with the agenda towards a single currency. So the building of the new head office is also expected to help in this direction.”
