Osei-Asare: Government committed to resolving CLOGSAG issues

The Civil and Local Government Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) agreed to call off its ongoing nationwide strike with immediate effect

Abena Osei-Asare, a deputy finance minister has said the government is ever committed to addressing the concerns of the Civil and Local Government Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).

On Thursday (20 January), the CLOGSAG embarked on industrial action to press home their demands for better conditions of service.

However, the strike did not last long as the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) revealed that on Wednesday (19 January), it signed an MoU with the leadership of CLOGSAG to call off their strike.

In an interview with Beatrice Adu on the Big Bulletin on Thursday (January 19), Osei-Asare said, “Together we have committed to work on this and make sure it happens this time for them. So, in that MoU, it was agreed that based on that commitment government have shown, they are going to call off the strike.

…We have given ourselves some timelines that whatever it is, we are going to incorporate into the 2023 budget so clearly, there are guidelines and timelines that we are working with. CLOGSAG itself has seen the commitment being shown by the government.

…What we are saying is that we need to complete everything before we start the budget. Usually, the budget starts in September of every year so that we can incorporate it into the budget.

…These things do take time. You ask the other unions and they’ll tell you, it takes time for us to put together these conditions of service and then sign on them and they know. So, whiles there’s a commitment that we are working at it, we have shown that this and that is what the government can do so you also have to meet the government in a way that at the end of the day, CLOGSAG is not made worse off and the government is able to survive,” she said.
