Parliament’s privileges committee refers Adwoa Safo to Speaker

The privileges committee Wednesday held its final meeting to conclude its report to the Speaker on the three MPs referred to it

The privileges committee of Parliament has referred the MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Adwoa Safo’s matter back to the Speaker for a final determination of the matter.

The move comes after several unsuccessful attempts to reach the MP. The committee has also refrained from declaring her guilty of absenteeism and also ignoring the committee’s invitation to justify her absence.

Speaking to parliamentary correspondent Philip Asiawo, the ranking member of the committee, Kweku Rickets Hagan, said it would be unfair to declare Adwoa Safo guilty without hearing from her.

“It is strange that a rational person will decide that he or she is not going to honor [invitation] … then again it comes with two things; has she really received the notices or not?”

“And there has not been any confirmation from her, that she has heard from us or she has received our notices but she will not come there was nothing like that or she has received them and she will come. So you can best describe as a case of a missing person, had it not been the interview she granted to Joy FM, I would say she is a missing person.

However, Hagan wants national security to mount a search for Adwoa Safo following numerous unsuccessful attempts by Parliament to reach her.

“She is a minister of state and a Member of Parliament. I think the responsibility should be on national security to look for her whereabout …”
