The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has lauded the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, Bono East Region, for its quality service delivery and pledged government support to enhance its infrastructure and capacity.
Led by Member of Parliament for Daffiama Busie, Sebastian Sandaare, the committee expressed satisfaction with the hospital’s services during a regional monitoring visit to selected health facilities.
Sandaare described the Holy Family Hospital as operating at the level of a teaching hospital despite limited infrastructure and equipment.
He pledged that government would support the facility’s upgrade to match its current role as the acting regional hospital for Bono East.
“We are impressed with what we observed here today. The environment is clean, green and serene. The staff are hardworking, happy, and dedicated to serving our people,” he stated.
The committee acknowledged the challenging conditions under which healthcare professionals at the facility work.
Sandaare assured that Parliament would advocate for a fair share of government resources for the hospital, especially given its critical role in providing healthcare to patients across Bono, Bono East, Ashanti, and parts of the Northern regions.
The team identified key challenges, including human resource gaps, limited emergency equipment such as patient monitors, and the need for MRI and mammography machines.
Sandaare also emphasised the need for infrastructure expansion to improve service delivery.
“The government of Mahama believes in quality healthcare, and we are hopeful he will deliver, particularly in equipment replacement,” Sandaare stated.
During the visit, the committee toured departments such as Accidents and Emergency Services, the Paediatric Ward, Laparoscopy Ward, Outpatient Department, Labour Ward and Maternity Unit, interacting with staff about operational challenges.
Hospital Administrator Dr Christopher Akanbobnaab highlighted the institution’s evolution from a health centre to its current status, stressing the urgent need for purpose-built infrastructure to support its mandate as a future tertiary hospital.
Founded in 1954 by the Medical Mission Sisters, Holy Family Hospital aspires to become a teaching hospital of medical excellence and a leading Christ-centred healthcare provider in Ghana.
