The parliamentary select committee on roads and transport has summoned the Minister of Transport, Kwaku Asiamah to appear before it on Wednesday (3 February) to explain the impasse between the Ghana Airports Company Limited and McDan Aviation.
The chairman of the committee, Kennedy Osei Nyarko said it has become necessary for the sector minister to clarify the situation about what is happening to Ghanaians.
Speaking to Beatrice Adu on The Big Bulletin on Tuesday (2 February), Nyarko said, “as a committee, the best we could’ve done was to take the opportunity to invite the sector minister to come and brief the committee because we didn’t want to speculate, I mean it’ll be very unfair to make any speculation about the matter and go to town with whatever message that we have.”
“So, we took it upon ourselves and wrote officially to the minister inviting him to appear before the committee at 11am so that he can brief the entire committee, we need to get the understanding,” he added.
McDan Aviation’s newly launched private jet terminal at the Kotoka International Airport was shut down by the Ghana Airports Company Limited after the company reportedly ignored a directive by the management of GACL to postpone the inauguration of the terminal due to security and safety concerns.
Subsequently, McDan Aviation said it has suspended operations of its recently launched Private Jet Services at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.
A letter signed by Daniel McKorley, the executive chairman of the McDan Group said, “We are writing to officially inform you about our decision to suspend our operations at the Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) with immediate effect. This has become necessary to pave way for us to thoroughly engage your outfit and all the key stakeholders on the way forward.”
