Parliament sets aside decision to reject 2022 Budget

The move clears the way for Parliament to conduct another round of voting to approve or reject the 2022 Budget Statement

Parliament, made up mainly of members of the Majority, has set aside an earlier decision by the House to reject the 2022 Budget.

The First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, said the decision taken by the House on Friday 26 November to declare the 2022 Budget rejected is not valid, because it did not satisfy the Standing Orders provision which stipulates that at least one-half of members must be present in the House for such a decision to be taken.

The First Deputy Speaker has asked that members present in the chamber be counted to ensure that they satisfy this provision and proceed to put forward another vote for approval or rejection of the 2022 Budget.

The move by the sitting leadership of the House clears the way for Parliament to conduct another vote on approval or rejection of the Budget.
