Mastering the melodies: Naana The Violinist’s journey

Naana’s journey as a violinist took off  when she started learning on YouTube and then got better over time with performing at events

Embarking on a musical journey can be both challenging and rewarding, especially for young violinists

The pursuit of mastering this elegant instrument requires dedication, discipline, and a deep passion for music.

The self-taught violinist, Naana Ohui Osabutey, otherwise known as Naana The Violinist, started her journey with a spark of curiosity.

Speaking to Asaase Showbiz, the violinist said, “So basically, I started learning on YouTube. I’m a full-time professional violinist. I tutor kids, adults, and people of all ages, and then I’m a voiceover artist as well.”

“Depending on the song I’m playing, I channel the emotion the song comes with.”

“So if I’m playing a song like Whitney Houston’s, I wanna dance with somebody. It’s a very happy song, so I try to bring all the energy, the smiles, the laughter, and all that to make my guests also enjoy that,” she said.

Naana the violinist, vividly recalls the moments she played for some notable personalities in the country. “It’s quite overwhelming and it makes me very, very happy, she said.

“I feel very accomplished when I do stuff like that.”

She fondly recalls performing for President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, saying, “So yes, I’ve performed for the president, first of all, His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo. I’ve performed for the vice-president as well. I’ve performed for the Finance Minister, which was very recent, on his birthday, and the Minister of Defence.”

These experiences not only boosted her confidence but also solidified her passion for the violin.

As with any artistic pursuit, mastering the violin requires unwavering dedication. Naana shares that maintaining a disciplined practice routine was crucial to her progress.

“I practice as much as I eat. So if I eat in the morning, I have to practice in the morning; if I eat in the afternoon, I have to practice in the afternoon.”

For Naana, the journey as a violinist is an ongoing process of growth and exploration.

She continues to expand her repertoire and seek inspiration from renowned violinists like Lindsey Sterling.

The journey of a young violinist is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and dedication. Through hard work, overcoming challenges, and embracing opportunities, Naana continues to evolve as a performer.

Naana The Violinist advised young and upcoming violinists to be different and “try and be yourself.”

“You should aspire to be better or aspire to get to the top. Not just about the money, because if you follow the money, you’ll be disappointed.”

Aspiring violinists can take inspiration from her stories, knowing that with determination and a love for music, they too can create beautiful melodies on this timeless instrument.
