Parliament approves US$150 million loan for GARID project

Parliament on Friday (17 May) approved a loan facility of US$150 million from the World Bank.

The facility will be used in funding the ongoing Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project, which seeks to address flooding issues in the capital.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament had earlier opposed the approval of the facility.

They argued that an earlier loan facility of US$200 million, which was approved for the GARID project was not put to good use.

Nevertheless, after a headcount vote that favoured the Majority Caucus (136 votes) compared to the Minority’s (132 votes), the House gave its approval for the loan facility.
