Owusu Bempah aide arrested over death threats

Bright Berchie, 30, who has been on the run and is an aide to the popular religious leader, was arrested with a weapon on him, a police statement said

The police have captured Bright Berchie, an aide to Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, in connection with a recent alleged assault on police officers, a statement from the Ghana Police Service says.

The head pastor of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Reverend Owusu Bempah, was arrested together with four other men two weeks ago, allegedly for attacking police officers on the church premises.

The others – Mensah Ofori, Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene and Nathaniel Agyekum – were charged with six counts of assault and making death threats.

The accused face charges of threatening to kill the fetish priest-turned-evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Okomfo Agradaa.

 

Berchie, aged 30, who has been on the run from the police, was arrested with a weapon on him, according the statement.

He has been charged with offences of making death threats, offensive conduct and carrying firearms without lawful authority, the police say.
