Our people are hungry for development, Ketu North MP urges traditional leaders to resolve disputes

Edem Agbana described the unresolved issues as a major impediment to progress and called on traditional leaders to put aside personal and factional differences in the interest of the people

The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, has expressed concern over persistent chieftaincy and land litigation issues in parts of the municipality, warning that such disputes continue to undermine development efforts in the area.

He described the unresolved issues as a major impediment to progress and called on traditional leaders to put aside personal and factional differences in the interest of the people.

Speaking during the confirmation ceremony of Martin Amenaki as the Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu North, Agbana appealed to traditional authorities to rise above conflict and support efforts to drive development.

“The unrest, land litigation, and chieftaincy issues in some communities within the municipality are affecting development. It becomes difficult for political leaders to implement projects without being accused of taking sides,” he said.

According to him, some potential development projects, investor engagements, and infrastructure initiatives have been stalled or abandoned due to ongoing disputes, which create tension and uncertainty in the area.

He noted that political leaders have no mandate to determine who becomes a chief or to legitimise any traditional authority, but such conflicts inevitably affect governance and development efforts.

“When these disputes spill into the public and political space, it is the ordinary people who suffer the consequences,” he stated.

Agbana urged the chiefs to unite for the common good, stressing that development cannot thrive in division.

“Our people are hungry for development. They want roads, schools, water, and jobs. We cannot deliver these if we are divided. I am appealing to all chiefs, particularly those in areas with unresolved disputes, to find a way forward,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with the newly confirmed MCE to transform the local economy and improve lives in the constituency.

“As your MP, I am ready to go every length to bring development to this constituency. But I need the full backing and support of our traditional leaders. If our chiefs are united, development in Ketu North is assured,” he added.
