Otumfuo to close Bawku mediation efforts by 1 December, Manhyia Palace says

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has scheduled 30 November and 1 December 2025, for the concluding phase of his mediation efforts in the protracted Bawku chieftaincy dispute, Manhyia Palace said on Monday.

The two-day session aims to broker lasting peace between the feuding Kusasi and Mamprusi factions, which have been involved in recurring violence in the Bawku municipality. Sporadic attacks in recent months have led to loss of life and the imposition of curfews to curb unrest.

“His Majesty praises both sides for their positive approach to the mediation so far and appeals to all concerned to avoid any actions likely to affect the progress towards a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict,” the statement said.

The Asantehene’s involvement dates back to April, when he met representatives from both factions to initiate dialogue. Discussions resumed in May, resulting in a period of relative calm in the area, though tensions have persisted.

By announcing the final mediation dates, the Asantehene signals a renewed determination to guide both sides toward consensus and restore stability in the conflict-ridden enclave.

His leadership has been widely recognised by traditional leaders, government officials, and peace advocates as a symbol of unity and wisdom in resolving one of Ghana’s most enduring disputes.
