Otto Addo is turning Black Stars into “mentality monsters”, says Addae-Mensah

Addae-Mensah also emphasised the need for patience as the Black Stars head coach continues to shape his squad

Kojo Addae-Mensah, Group CEO of Databank, has lauded Otto Addo’s influence on the Black Stars players since making a return to coach the team.

Addae-Mensah also praised the newfound resilience and fighting spirit of the Black Stars squad.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show (ABS) on Tuesday (11 June), Addae-Mensah highlighted the team’s recent performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as evidence of their growing mental fortitude.

Addae-Mensah’s comments came after the Black Stars’ thrilling comeback victory over the Central African Republic.

Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Ghana rallied to win 4-3 in a dramatic match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday (10 June).

This victory followed another impressive turnaround just four days earlier when the Black Stars overcame a 1-0 deficit at halftime to beat Mali 2-1 in Bamako on Thursday (6 June).

“I think Otto [Addo] is bringing some mentality monster into the team and that is very important,” Addae-Mensah said.

“It’s very key that we become mentality monsters so that we can overcome any adversity that we will be seeing as we go along through these qualifiers.”

Addae-Mensah also emphasised the need for patience as the coach continues to shape his squad. “It’s a team he (Otto Addo) is building; he’s new, he needs time and at national team level, it will take a long time because you don’t have many days with your team,” he noted.

Addae-Mensah was a member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) five-member committee tasked with finding a new head coach after the dismissal of Chris Hughton.
