Otto Addo has restored belief in the Black Stars, says Addae-Mensah

The Black Stars entered the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in a slump, winless in seven games since November 2023

Databank CEO Kojo Addae-Mensah has hailed Black Stars head coach Otto Addo for restoring faith in the national team after a morale-sapping winless run.

The Black Stars entered the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in a slump, winless in seven games since November 2023.

However, under Addo’s leadership, the Black Stars secured back-to-back wins, overcoming a one-goal deficit to defeat Mali 2-1 in Bamako before edging out the Central African Republic (CAR) 4-3 in a thrilling encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

“The most important thing is the belief he’s brought back,” Addae-Mensah said.

“The fans are believing, the team is believing [and] the country is believing and I think that is what is very critical.”

However, the Databank CEO cautioned that significant work remains, particularly in defense. “There is no doubt in my mind; the team has a lot of work to do,” he stressed.

“The defence is not anywhere near where we should be at all; the back five is a problem and I think he knows it. Even those of us who are following the thing from the sidelines, we’ve seen it; definitely the technical team has seen it and they need to work on it. It is a pity that they don’t have too many days at a time to fix it.”
