Otchere-Darko backs Asaase review of Cape Coast, Tamale stations, says operations must be commercially viable

Gabby Otchere-Darko, the chairman of Asaase Broadcasting Company and Asaase Foundation

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has backed Asaase Radio’s decision to review operations at its Cape Coast and Tamale stations, arguing that media outlets must be run sustainably rather than as charities.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (10 February), the Africa Prosperity Network chairman said while both stations reportedly command strong audiences, commercial performance must match listenership.

“I support the decision that’s been taken to suspend operations for a while and review,” he said. “If you have the market and the listenership, you must leverage it.”

According to him, stations that fail to translate audience strength into revenue risk long-term viability.

“It’s a business you are running. It’s not charity,” he said.

He suggested that management should consider restructuring or bringing in new teams capable of turning listenership into sustainable commercial outcomes.

The comments come as Asaase evaluates the future of its regional stations as part of broader operational reforms.
