Ghana police: We’ll be alert at World Cup public viewing spots

The police have called on event organisers during the World Cup to contact them for protection in order to maintain peace in the country

The Ghana Police Service has informed the general public that sufficient security measures have been adopted to uphold peace and order during the FIFA World Cup viewing at public places.

The global football showpiece kicks off on Sunday 20 November 2022.

In a statement released on Thursday (17 November), the police said: “As the 2022 tournament kickstart on Sunday 20 November 2022, the police would like to assure the public that adequate additional security measures have been put in place to maintain security, law and order in the country during the event and beyond.”

The police have advised individuals who will want to organise public viewings, especially at designated places, to contact the various commands for security directives.

Be safety conscious

The police also urged Ghanaians to be security conscious “so that in their excitement and jubilation, they do not fall victim to crime and do not infringe on the rights and freedoms of others.”

“We would like to take this opportunity to wish the Black Stars a successful tournament in Qatar as the nation rallies behind them to bring the cup home,” the statement said.
