The senior presidential advisor, Yaw Osafo Maafo, has called for national public sector reforms that are geared towards creation of jobs for the youth.
He said a significant challenge facing the country is unemployment among the youth, which is a serious threat to national security but the private sector has not been leveraged efficiently to create the much-needed jobs.
Osafo-Maafo, therefore, called for a responsive, efficient and effective public sector that places the catalytic role of government at the centre of all its policies to support the private sector in job creation.
Speaking at the National Stakeholders’ Dialogue on Public Sector Reforms in Cape Coast, Osafo-Maafo said, “The public sector should look at new ways of providing service to the citizens and the private sector so that there will be growth in the private sector to create employment for this country.”
“Don’t forget that anytime anybody puts up a business, he’s risking a capital and he’s risking capital to create employment. So if you create difficulties for these people to come and risk their capital, we are not doing anything good for this country,” he said.
“So I’m always advocating for the civil service and the public service to be friendly to the private sector so that the private sector attempting to assess services will be encouraged because whatever they need is granted, is granted on time, etc.”
“So let us always bear in mind that reforms are necessary, but they are necessary to solve problems and it cannot be a situation where the reforms are negative. Every reform, if it is worth the definition, must be positive, must improve the system,” Osafo-Maafo added.
