Investing in women-owned businesses strategic necessity for Ghana’s sustainable development, says GEA CEO

Speaking at the maiden Women in Business dialogue series in Accra on Tuesday (26 March) Yankey-Ayeh urged the country to provide equal opportunities for women entrepreneurs to thrive

The chief executive officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, has said investing in women-owned businesses is not just a moral imperative but a strategic necessity for Ghana‘s sustainable development.
Speaking at the maiden Women in Business dialogue series in Accra on Tuesday (26 March) Yankey-Ayeh urged the country to provide equal opportunities for women entrepreneurs to thrive.
She said, “Let us commit to providing equal opportunities for women entrepreneurs to thrive, innovate, and lead. Let us foster an ecosystem where every woman with a dream and a vision can turn her aspirations into reality.”

On his part, the chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley, noted that the economy cannot achieve meaningful growth when it excludes over 50.7% of the population from the business landscape.

“When we help women to succeed, we’re investing in the future of our society. We’re creating a world where everyone has an equal chance to pursue their dreams, and where everyone’s potential is given the opportunity to be realised. It’s simply the right thing to do.”

Godwin Acquaye, CEO of the B&FT, also urged participants to actively engage and share the power of women-owned businesses to propel Ghana into a future of prosperity, equality and sustainable development.

The Women in Business dialogue series organised by the B&FT was to provide women with an ideal platform to exchange ideas and provide insight into maximising the potential of women-led businesses.

The event under the theme “investing in women-owned businesses for Ghana’s transformation agenda: A call for action” was also to provide a platform to harness the potential of women-owned businesses in the country.
