Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central has said the Minority Caucus in Parliament did not err in backing former president John Mahama to contest as the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The opposition MPs have endorsed Mahama to lead the party in the 2024 elections following a visit to his office recently.
Speaking to Beatrice Adu on the Big Bulletin on Wednesday( 22 February), Ayariga said: “We are also delegates, we have the right to vote, so the delegates are in different categories, MPs are delegates.”
“And so if as delegates we declare our support to a particular candidate, so be it, nothing can be done about it,” Ayariga said. “We have the right to express our preference, fair or unfair, that’s the context.”

Mahama picks forms
Meanwhile, Professor Joshua Alabi, a former rector of the University of Professional Studies on Wednesday (22 February) picked forms on behalf of former president John Mahama to contest as flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mahama on Tuesday declared his intention to contest again after the Minority Caucus paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Accra.
“We are here to pick up the forms for John Dramani Mahama,” Alabi said at the party’s headquarters after picking the forms. “As you are aware we are in very difficult times in this country, the economy is in shambles, people are suffering and the summary here is that people are crying for the NDC to come back.”
“The NDC has gone through all its structures, and elections, it is time to come for the flagbearer to deliver the 2024 elections.
“Ghanaians are asking for a well-experienced leader, leadership counts. If leadership counts then experience is the key, one who has done it before and one who is very humble, one who loves the people and one who believes in people-centered policies. Fortunately for us in the NDC, as a country, we have somebody like that,” he added.
