Yaw Tog: Combining music and school was stressful

Young Ghanaian rapper Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, popularly known as Yaw Tog, has said that he was very stressed combining music and academics at the same time.

“I will say it was very stressful,” Yaw Tog told Asaase Radio. “I was being stressed, I wanted to be a normal student else they would treat me different, since I’m done with senior high school all I want to do is focus on music.”

The high school graduate stated that he and his mother are on the same page, especially when it comes to his chosen career as an artiste and his finances.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s Rush Hour show, the ‘Sore’ hitmaker said that the most important things to him currently is his future and his finances.

“I want to be at the pinnacle, the most important things to me that I don’t joke with is money and future,” he told Elvis Crystal and Keely Jay Brewer on the show.

The 18-year-old disclosed on the show that he is into numerous investments, adding: “I don’t spend a lot, I like investing. I always split my money – 60% for investment and 40% for things I will need urgently.”

Fame

Touching on his rise to fame, Yaw Tog said: “I’m still not believing this fame because this is not me. I told myself I need to blow after school, but it came when I was in school so I’m still not believing it.”

“After recording the song “sore” I knew it would be a hit, I just knew it, I told myself that day that I’m a superstar because each time I listen to the song I get goosebumps.”

Yaw Tog added that he was inspired by the Kumerican trend to write his hit song ‘sore’. “I had an idea during the Kumerican trend to tell the people that the Kumerican vibe won’t die, the “sore” is a message to the world”.
