North East Region: Assailants kill 33-year-old nurse

The nurse allegedly had a misunderstanding with smokers on Sunday at Walewale Moshifong and beat him to a pulp resulting in head injuries

Salifu Abdulai, a 33-year-old nurse attached to the Walewale Government Hospital in the West Mamprusi municipality of the North East Region, has been killed by suspected smokers.

Locals tell Asaase News that the nurse had a misunderstanding with the smokers on Sunday at Walewale Moshifong and beat him to a pulp resulting in head injuries.

They dumped his motionless body near the Walewale cemetery, according to eyewitnesses, who later rushed the victim to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Abdulai was transferred from the Savelugu Hospital in the Northern Region to the Walewale Government Hospital in 2022 but moved to Moshifong just last month, the locals tell Asaase News.

Moshifong in Walewale is an area well known for social vices including ‘wee’ smoking and abuse of substances by the youth within the precinct of the cemetery.

The police are yet to officially comment on the incident. However, Asaase News gathers that a suspect has been picked up.
