E-block saga: Chief never gave ultimatum to government, MCE says

Maxwell Koffie Lugudor says Torgbui Amenya Fiti V never gave an ultimatum for the completion of the E-block in the district

The paramount chief of Aflao, Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, did not give the government an ultimatum to complete the E-block community day senior high school in his area, the municipal chief executive of Ketu South has said.

President Akufo-Addo, in an interview with the Accra-based Peace FM on Thursday (21 October), entreated Torgbui Fiti V to ā€œcompleteā€ the project in the area himself if he was concerned about the delay in making the project operational.

The presidentā€™s comment has provoked a backlash from a cross-section of Ghanaians, with some demanding that he apologise.

No more props

However, speaking with Nana Yaa Mensah on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (25 October), the municipal chief executive for Ketu South, Maxwell Koffie Lugudor, said the matter is being politicised.

ā€œ… The media is overblowing the whole thing. I am still surprised Ketu South is being used by some political parties as a propaganda tool,ā€ Lugudor said.

ā€œIt is not helping Ketu South at all … We are not going to sit down to be used as propaganda tools again,ā€ he declared.

The chief, Lugudor claimed, never mentioned that he had presented the government with an ultimatum for the E-block.

ā€œHe called me personally that he was rather appealing. Because when the people from Parliament came to him, which I was not aware anyway, he asked them that the building is almost completed and thieves are removing things from it …

ā€œSo if they could go back and tell the Minister of Education that he is pleading [so] that he could let his children go to school. But I think the whole thing was turned upside down.ā€

Lugudor said security has been beefed up to protect valuables from being stolen from the project site.

He also denied assertions that the paramount chief is at loggerheads with President Akufo-Addo.
