Winless Hearts of Lions sack coach Salifu Fatawu

Salifu led Hearts of Lions to secure promotion to the Ghana Premier League for the first time since 2015

Ghana Premier League strugglers Kpando Hearts of Lions have sacked coach Salifu Fatawu.

Salifu led Hearts of Lions to secure promotion to the Ghana Premier League for the first time since 2015.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Kpando-based club said, they “have mutually agreed to part ways” with the coach who played a crucial role in their return to the top flight after eight years.

“The club thanks coach Salifu Fatrawu for his role in ensuring its qualification to the Ghana Premier League. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours,”

Hearts of Lions are winless since their return to trop flight football.

They’ve drawn eight and lost 5 in 13 games and lie bottom of the league table.

Eric Adzie, Public Relations Officer of the club told Asaasesports that, “we had a very good campaign in Division one and we were of the hope that we are going to translate that into the premiership, Coach Fatawu qualified as from division one, he played very good football with us.”

“But unfortunately the team currently lies at the bottom of the table – upon consultation with management, he believes that it is time to just also leave the job for another person to also come in have a look”.

“He (Fatawu) loves Hearts of Lions so much and he wants a new one to come. I believe we’re just going through a lot of difficulties in terms of goalscoring.

“Anybody who watches the team asks why we are bottom of the league log after a very good display we took, very important points in our away matches, but the home matches have been difficult for us this particular season.”

“If we look at the number of goals scored away, it is even more than what we’ve scored at home and one could hardly tell where our difficulty lies.”
