Asantehene to government: Involve chiefs in renewed fight against galamsey

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has bemoaned the seeming neglect of chiefs in the fight against the menace resulting in its failure in the past

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged the government to ensure greater involvement of chiefs as it renews the fight against illegal mining across the country.

He bemoaned the seeming neglect of chiefs in the fight against the menace resulting in its failure in the past.

Some 200 soldiers have been deployed to stop mining within water bodies in the Central and Western Regions.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11 has welcomed the government’s move adding that chiefs must be made to play a role in the fight against galamsey.

He was speaking when some officials of the Minerals Commissions called on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
