Ofosu Asamoah: CLOGSAG has agreed to call off strike

CLOGSAG has been on strike since 21 April to demand what they describe as the non-payment of neutrality allowance as agreed with the government

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has said the government has reached an agreement with the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) to pay their neutrality allowance.

CLOGSAG has been on strike since 21 April to demand what they describe as the non-payment of neutrality allowance as agreed with the government.

Speaking with Beatrice Adu on The Big Bulletin on Wednesday (27 April), the executive secretary of NLC, Ofosu Asamoah said “the government has agreed to pay [neutrality allowance] and then CLOGSAG has also agreed to call off the strike.”

No concrete timelines

Ofosu Asamoah said it is not clear when the allowance will be paid.

“The ministry for finance is supposed to write to the controller as to when the payment should start but we were not given the details of it. I’m sure that will come out on Friday…”

“We just hope that they’ll respect the agreement and each party plays its part in the bargain. As to when they’ll pay, we’ll get to know from the letters that’ll reach the controller by Friday (29 April),” he said.
