Ghanaian sporting stars battle it out for GEA-USA award

Nominees for the Best Sports Personality Award at the 2024 Ghana Entertainment Awards USA (GEA-USA) have been revealed ahead of the main ceremony taking place on 6 July at the Kaufman Music Centre in New York City.

This year’s contenders represent a diverse range of sporting disciplines, with football, boxing, athletics, and bobsled all vying for recognition.

The nominees include two past winners: West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus (2023) and Ghanaian sprint sensation Benjamin Azamati (2022).

Looking to dethrone the champions are boxers Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah and Samuel Takyi, footballers Iñaki Williams and Elizabeth Addo and Ghana’s pioneering bobsled star Akwasi Frimpong.

The GEA-USA, now in its sixth edition, celebrates and shines light on the remarkable achievements of Ghanaians across various fields, including music, dance, media, poetry and of course, sports.

The awards encompass individuals based not only in Ghana but also in the USA and Canada.

Voting for the awards is currently underway and closes on 5 June. The much-anticipated winners will be announced at the main ceremony on 6 July.
