The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has commenced investigations into the official travels of the former President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during his tenure.
Former President Akufo-Addo left office on 7 January 2025, after serving two terms in office.
Asaase News can confirm that officials of the NIB reached out to the former Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei Opare, inviting her to attend a meeting to assist them with ongoing investigations into the travels of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Following the Asaase News publication linking the investigation process to the Office of the President, the spokesperson to the President of the Republic, Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), has denied in a post on his Facebook wall any such directive to the NIB from the office of the President.
This move, which comes amid growing public discourse on governance transparency, has sparked reactions from various quarters.
A source close to the former president has described the directive as “a new low,” suggesting it may be politically motivated. However, government officials insist the probe is part of broader efforts to ensure accountability in the management of state resources.
It remains unclear whether the investigation will cover the full scope of Akufo-Addo’s travels throughout his presidency or focus on specific instances. The NIB has yet to comment publicly on the directive.
