The Cape Coast High Court has ruled in favour of Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, in a defamation suit against two individuals who publicly maligned him.
In a judgment delivered on Monday, 28 April, the court found that Stephen Cobbah, known as Adepa, and Yaw Korankye, known as Ampong, had made defamatory statements about the lawmaker on the “Assinman Politics Gh.” WhatsApp platform in March 2024.
Rev. Fordjour, who is also the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, filed the lawsuit in April 2024, seeking damages, a public retraction, and an injunction against further defamatory comments.
The court awarded GHS 700,000 in damages against the two defendants jointly and severally. They were also ordered to pay GHS 20,000 each in costs.
In addition to the financial penalties, the court issued a perpetual injunction preventing further defamatory publications.
The defendants must also issue an unqualified apology and retract their comments on the original platform and any others where the remarks were circulated.
The ruling marks a significant legal victory for Rev. Fordjour after months of proceedings.
