Ntim Fordjour demands probe into “shocking” GHC8.3 million election expenditure in alleged National Security scandal
The call by Reverend Ntim Fordjour follows explosive claims by Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former head of the National Signals Bureau, that millions of cedis were diverted to political campaigns and parliamentary committees

The ranking member of Parliament’s defence and interior committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, is calling for a full-scale investigation into allegations he describes as “shocking, scary” and grounds for “a major national security scandal”, following the emergence of a leaked document outlining special operations expenditures allegedly sanctioned by the National Security Secretariat.
In a strongly worded social media post on Wednesday (7 May), Ntim Fordjour expressed outrage over specific allocations, including GHC8.3 million purportedly used to support an opposition party during the December 2024 general election.
He also noted GHC960,000 in “allowances” for the defence and interior committee in 2020/21 and an additional GHC5.135 million, allegedly spent on logistics received by a special aide to the then president-elect, John Dramani Mahama in December 2024.
“The taxpayer deserves a thorough and transparently conducted probe into the above financial impropriety. This must not be politics as usual,” Fordjour wrote.
The leaked table, which Asaase News has reviewed, includes a summary of “special operations expenditures” between 2020 and 2024 amounting to tens of millions of cedis. Among the listed expenses are:
-
GHC8.3 million, described as support for “opposition party” communications equipment to collate election result, with the recipient being labelled as “classified”.
-
GHC960,000 and GHC309,000 were paid to parliamentary committees reportedly involved in enacting or facilitating security legislation.
-
GHC5.135 million in logistics, including the acquisition of luxury vehicles (2024 Nissan Patrol Platinum and 2022 Land Cruiser GXR), for use by aides to the then president-elect.
The categories in the document setting out the justification for expenditure include “national cohesion”, “political impartiality” and “security operations”. Yet many of the line items – particularly the ones flagged by Fordjour – appear to carry heavy political implications.
It is unclear who authorised the disbursements but the table names the national security co-ordinator and the special aide to the president-elect as key recipients in certain transactions.
Calls for accountability are growing, especially given that some of the transactions allegedly occurred just weeks before or after the hotly contested 2024 general election.
