Kumasi: Police question NDC vice chairman and others for wearing ‘army uniforms’

The leaders including the regional vice chairman Captain Kwame Jabari (rtd) are assisting investigations after they were captured in a viral photo wearing military attire at a political event

At least six Ashanti regional executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been invited by the police CID for questioning.

The leaders including the regional vice chairman Captain Kwame Jabari (rtd) are assisting investigations after they were captured in a viral photo wearing military attire during former president John Mahama’s tour of the region.

The others are Baah Acheamfour, a deputy secretary, Seth Atanga, deputy youth organiser, and Marvin Philip Frazer Norman, treasurer.

They have since been granted a self-recognisance bail after writing their caution statements.

Captain Jabari (rtd) is already accusing the state security of attempts to intimidate members of the opposition party. He said such conduct will be fiercely resisted.

“It is just an attire that was worn, and we will continue to wear it until a court of competent jurisdiction says that Ashanti region NDC executives cannot wear it then we stop wearing it,” Jabari addressed the media at the regional police headquarters on Wednesday (29 March).

“The police are not a law unto themselves. The executives are more poised, and we will leave no stone unturned. We will not be intimated by anybody. We are more focused on victory in 2024,” he said.
