NSA begins talks to train national service personnel in military drills

Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye assured the NSA of the Ghana Armed Forces’ full support and readiness to provide the required training

The National Service Authority (NSA) has commenced high-level consultations with the Ghana Armed Forces for the rollout of the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP), a new initiative aimed at equipping National Service Personnel (NSPs) with basic military training.

The engagement, held on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, signals the beginning of preparations for the programme, which was first unveiled by President John Dramani Mahama during his maiden State of the Nation Address to Parliament on 27 February 2025.

According to NSA Director-General Felix Gyamfi, the NSERRP is a cornerstone of the President’s broader vision to instil discipline, patriotism, and physical fitness among Ghanaian youth.

“The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth,” Mr. Gyamfi said during the meeting.

He stressed that all National Service Personnel would be required to undergo basic drills and orientation exercises as part of the programme, describing it as a transformative step in youth development and national renewal.

Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, who represented the Military High Command, assured the NSA of the Ghana Armed Forces’ full support and readiness to provide the required training.

“We are committed to this national call and stand prepared to offer the necessary expertise and logistical support to ensure its success,” he said.

The NSERRP will involve up to two months of basic military instruction. The first cohort of National Service Personnel is expected to begin training on 3 August 2025.
