North Dayi: Chief Justice commissions new court facility

Anin Yeboah cautioned traditional rulers to desist from settling criminal cases and allow the court to handle such issues

The Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah, has commissioned a state-of-the-art district magistrate court in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region.

The Chief Justice officially opened the court and a three-bedroom fully furnished bungalow for the magistrate judge on Wednesday 3 May in Vakpo, a developing community in the district.

The facility was funded by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development through the District Assemblies’ Common Fund.

Anin Yeboah, on the same day, commissioned another magistrate court in the Afadzato South District.

In his address at the commissioning ceremony in Vakpo, the Chief Justice called on the court to give a fair hearing to all cases and urged the chiefs and people of the area to practice a good maintenance culture of the facility.

He also urged the people to consider the option of alternative dispute resolution to reduce the pressure on the main court system.

Anin Yeboah cautioned traditional rulers to desist from settling criminal cases and allow the court to handle such issues.

The district chief executive (DCE) for the area, Edmond Kudjo Atta, said the facility has come at the right time because “we’ve brought justice closer to the people of North Dayi. We are making sure that the link between law and development is realised and that’s critical.”

The DCE called on resident see the court not only as place for settling disputes but make use of it in other areas such as businesses, marriages and affidavits.

Atta thanked President Akufo-Addo for prioritising district in developmental projects. He called on the people and traditional rulers to join forces in the development of the area.
