The Oti regional women’s organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alice Mensah, and her women’s wing campaign team have taken an unusual approach in their bid to secure votes in the upcoming 7 December general elections.
In a dramatic gesture, they went down on their knees, appealing to residents of the Guan constituency to support the NPP.
Their plea? To rally behind both the party’s presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, and the parliamentary candidate, Michael Osibo.
Mensah and her team are on an aggressive campaign tour across the Oti region, engaging directly with constituents.
Their mission is clear: to highlight the achievements of the NPP and the potential for future development under the leadership of Bawumia.
Branded the “OTI Women Alignment with Dr. Bawumia; It Is Possible” campaign, they aim to convince voters that the NPP is the only party capable of transforming the nation’s fortunes.
Speaking to the communities they visited, Mensah pointed to the development strides made in Hohoe under John Peter Amewu’s leadership as a model for what could be achieved in the Guan constituency.
She emphasised the party’s accomplishments, such as the creation of the Guan district, a move she says sets the stage for even greater progress in the region under a Bawumia-led government.
“Under the NPP government, [the] Oti region has been created, roads constructed, free senior high school policy [has] benefitted many residents in the Oti region,” she said.
“The unprecedented DRIP initiative programme has brought us a relief on our road network; now our farmers will not experience post-harvest losses because the roads are now good for them to transport their farm produce to the various markets.”
She urged voters to back the NPP to ensure continued development, especially in the newly created regions like Oti.
Mensah also made a heartfelt appeal for unity, encouraging NPP members to promote peace and educate others on the party’s vision, regardless of their political affiliations.
During a visit to the Likpe Bala market, Mensah and her team engaged traders directly, emphasising the benefits that a Bawumia presidency would bring, including enhanced market facilities and overall economic growth.
The campaign tour has featured various community activities, including support for the Guan District’s “Business in a Box” apprenticeship programme, an initiative driven by Michael Osibo with backing from the MasterCard Foundation.
At Likpe Mate, Mensah advised apprentices to fully leverage their training to become self-sufficient and contribute to the local economy.
Her campaign continued with house-to-house and community outreach at Likpe Agbozume as part of a broader strategy to win over voters through personal interaction.
Mensah stressed that votes, not violence, are key to the NPP’s success in breaking the eight-year election cycle and continuing its developmental agenda.
“We need votes to win this election, not violence, so I want to call on all our youths to stay away from violence and rather help campaign for the party to win the heart of Ghanians to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party,” she said.
Communities such as Likpe Mate, Likpe Agbozume, Lolobi Ashiambi, Lolobi Bume, Mempeasem, and Lolobi Odumi have been among the stops on this intensive campaign trail, which, according to Mensah, has been met with positive responses.
