NPP will never ban legitimate small scale mining, says Effiduase/Asokore MP
Dr Afriyie emphasised the importance of supporting legal mining operations while distinguishing them from illegal activities that harm the environment.

Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, has firmly stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government will never ban small scale mining.
Speaking at an event to unveil a group of NPP campaigners in Kumasi last Friday, Dr Afriyie emphasized the importance of supporting legal mining operations while distinguishing them from illegal activities that harm the environment.
“We will never stop galamsey today or tomorrow. Because there’s a difference between small scale mining in the forest and the river bodies.”
Dr Afriyie accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deliberately spreading misinformation “to frustrate our votes in mining areas because they know we’re winning the seats around such areas. They want us to lose our seats in mining areas.”
“[But] the research that was done in August showed that the NPP was winning the seats”, he revealed.
Dr Afriyie criticised the NDC for allegedly importing foreigners to engage in illegal mining (galamsey) in areas like Offin and Oda, claiming this tactic is aimed at frustrating the NPP’s chances in mining regions.
“They are deliberately frustrating persons legally doing the mining in forests… Persons mining in water bodies are wicked, those persons we will stop them. God will punish you and your generations”, he stated.
