The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will kick off a nationwide “Thank You Tour” on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, beginning at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (22 April), Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP’s National Organiser, said the tour had been delayed to avoid clashing with the Michael Oquaye Committee’s nationwide review of the party’s electoral performance. With the committee’s report now submitted, Boakye said the time is ripe to engage the grassroots.
“This is not a new tradition. Whether we win or lose, we have always gone back to thank our base,” Boakye explained. “Even in 2008 and 2012, Nana Akufo-Addo embarked on similar tours. This is an important political exercise for us.”
Boakye also emphasised that the tour will not only be about gratitude but also a rallying call for unity and renewed momentum ahead of the 2028 elections. “Yes, it was a bad result, a disastrous result, but we still need to show appreciation to the people who worked for us. We’ll need them again for the next campaign,” he said.
The tour will proceed through all 16 regions, beginning in the Western Region on Saturday, April 26. The NPP has extended formal invitations to all former presidential aspirants to join the tour. Boakye noted that most have accepted the invitation, with only one or two indicating prior travel engagements.
Boakye also used the platform to criticise the current government under President John Mahama, citing what he described as early signs of poor governance.
“Four months in power, and it’s already disastrous,” he claimed, pointing to rising insecurity and unmet promises such as cocoa price hikes.
“This is a strategic political event,” he stressed. “While we thank our people, we must also remind them how the NDC is already failing. This tour is the beginning of the journey to wrestle back power in 2028.”
The tour is expected to last six weeks.
