Flagbearer race: “It’s time for Kennedy Agyapong to lead NPP into 2028” – Boakye-Danquah

SSNIT

Former government spokesperson Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has thrown his support behind Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s bid to lead Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 elections, describing the outspoken MP as the party’s best hope for unity and revival.

Speaking in an interview on Atumpan on AsaasePa 107.3, and in a separate endorsement statement, Dr Boakye-Danquah praised Agyapong’s long-standing service to the party and country.

Dr Boakye-Danquah added that the party’s poor performance in the 2024 general elections called for reflection and fresh leadership.

“The party needs unity at this time… and the big brother in the NPP now is Kennedy Agyapong,” he said. “We are rebirthing and rebuilding the party, and we need someone who can help unite the party. This is a man who has been MP for over two decades, served on various committees and supported and financed the party for so many years.”

“This isn’t the percentage we should have obtained in the 2024 election,” he noted, suggesting that a new candidate such as Agyapong could help rebuild trust and energise the base.

He argued that Agyapong’s life and career reflected “a character shaped not only by overcoming challenges but also by wielding influence with integrity.”

He also made comparisons to Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, suggesting that Agyapong had wider appeal after years of public visibility.

“If you are looking at the argument of marketing, then Kennedy Agyapong is the most marketed personality [compared] to Dr Bawumia,” he stated.
