NPP Primaries: Kwasi Kwarteng files nomination for Asante Akyem North seat; says constituency needs a new direction

Kwasi Kwarteng was accompanied by a massive crowd when he made a trip to the party office at Agogo to purchase his forms

The Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Education Kwasi Kwarteng who purchased nomination forms to contest the Asante Akyem North parliamentary primary says he is the best candidate to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 general elections.

“It’s a clarion call”, Kwarteng told journalists. “It is a call by the entire fabric, especially the youth in the constituency and they are saying they want development; a development which is anchored on progress”.

Kwarteng further added that the Constituency needs a new face that would be able to connect with the people and restore their confidence as the party prepares to break the eight-year political jinx.

“We don’t need a person who will rise against the party in times of difficulties. We need somebody who can unite the party. So, I am contesting against the backdrop of these principles. The principle is to save the party from systemic apathy, and this was occasioned when this [sitting] MP came into being”, stated Kwarteng as he criticized the sitting MP Andy Appiah Kubi.

“This is someone who has lost base with the people, and we are saying that he just leaves the scene so that other people will continue”, he remarked.

Kwarteng was accompanied by a massive crowd when he made a trip to the party office at Agogo to purchase his forms.

For 26-year-old Faustina Adinkra, it is time for a new direction.

“I chose to follow Kwasi Kwarteng because he is the man for the job”. As constituents one of our main challenges is unemployment. Many of our youth who have degrees after completing our two universities here do not have jobs. But I know he has connected many of us to get employed”, she said.

“This is a man of vision and I know he will be a good MP”, she added.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) opened nominations for individuals vying to represent the party in constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament.

Parliamentary primaries in these constituencies are scheduled for January 27, 2024. It is the last internal election ahead of the 2024 polls.

Deputy General Secretary Prof. Haruna Mohammed in an interview stated that the necessary steps have been taken, with forms ready for distribution. He also mentioned the forthcoming announcement of vetting committees after the submission of forms on December 25.
