NPP polls: Delegate collapses and dies after his candidate lost

The delegate is reported to have collapsed after his favourite candidate failed to win the chairmanship slot. He died shortly on the way to the hospital

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegate in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency identified as Paul Amaliba Azika, has died after he collapsed at the constituency’s executives election held at the GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga.

The delegate is reported to have collapsed after his favourite candidate failed to win the chairmanship slot. He died shortly while being conveyed to the regional hospital.

Azika had been garnering support in favour of Awudu Asonga Moro who was in the contest with two other candidates. Moro who was tipped to win the chairmanship slot, however, secured 353 losing to Kwame Anaba who won by 355 votes.

The demise of the delegate, who was also a government appointee in the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, has caused the postponement of a meeting to elect a presiding member for the assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga, confirming the death of Paul Amaliba Azika eulogised him as someone who contributed positively during assembly proceedings.
