The New York chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP New York) has marked its 33rd anniversary with a weekend of activities that brought together leading figures in the party, dignitaries and supporters from the United States, Canada, UK and Ghana.
The two-day event, from Saturday 23 August to Sunday 24 August 2025, featured a glamorous dinner and fundraiser at the plush Hotel NoMa in New Rochelle, followed by a summer barbecue and cookout at the Glen Island, Picnic Area 7.
The celebrations drew an overwhelming crowd, with organisers confirming that the dinner venue exceeded capacity, obliging the organisers to relocate about a hundred guests.

Among the high-profile guests were the former vice-president of Ghana and NPP 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; the former minister of education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; the NPP national first vice-chairman, Smith Buttey Danquah; the chair of the NPP-USA branch, Obaa Yaa Frimpong, the chair of the NPP Canada branch, Victoria Owusu Ansah; the former New York chapter chairman Professor Akwasi Achampong; the former NPP USA branch chairman Nana Agyei Yeboah; and members of the NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament.
A number of Ghanaian celebrities also graced the occasion, lending glitz and cultural flair to the milestone celebrations.

With the theme “33 Years of Devoted Service, Patriotism and Commitment: Reigniting the Base, Rebuilding With Our Core Values in Unity”, the anniversary highlighted the chapter’s contribution to the growth of the NPP since its formation.
Party leaders paid tribute to the pioneers who, during the challenging period of military rule in Ghana, laid the foundation for the chapter in New York, nurturing it from silence into the vibrant force it is today.
Speaking on the theme “Honouring Our Heroes – Reigniting Our Base”, the chairman of the NPP New York chapter, Frank Antwi, described the anniversary as a moment to reflect on the party’s roots and reignite NPP values for the future.

“In the early beginnings (pre-1980s), when it all began, through the past 33 years, it was obvious that posterity would at a moment like this acknowledge its icons,” Antwi said.
“On this occasion, we honour the efforts and abilities of our predecessors who courageously assembled heroes and conquerors during a period of military dictatorship, tyranny and oppression to build the foundational springboard that has sprung a group of like-minded Ghanaians in the New York Area from silence to the vibrant chapter we’ve become.”
Leaders of the chapter urged members to remain steadfast in unity, stressing that internal strife will pose a greater danger than external opposition.

“This stage in our political journey as NPP, where unity and purpose have gone separate ways, what is even more dangerous is not the things we say, but what we lack the bravery to say,” a statement issued by NPP New York said.
“In view of the current temperature in-house, the time is ripe to eschew negativity, injustice, internal bickering and slander.
“Let’s head back to our roots and return well renewed in commitment and devotion with aligned energies to prosecute a shared purpose in unity and strength against our enemies.”

Antwi also reminded members of the inevitable ups and downs of politics, stressing that victory and defeat are both part of the struggle. “We have won and lost, such is life; right and erred, such is human!” he declared.
Members also observed the anniversary to remember and honour the sacrifices of fallen patriots of the NPP.
“May this anniversary serve as a memorial to all fallen patriots, and may the memories of the moment live on to for ever inspire courage, selflessness, stewardship and patriotism to be more impactful in the years ahead,” the chapter chairman declared.
A highlight of the celebrations was the announcement of a major fundraising drive to support the activities of the chapter’s adopted constituency in Ghana for the 2028 general election. Members and sympathisers were encouraged to contribute through a QR code donation platform launched at the event.

“At 33, NPP New York chapter exclusively announces a fundraiser to fund the activities of her adopted constituency ahead of 2028 and request the support of all and sundry. Kindly scan the QR code and donate now! Your attention and generosity are immensely appreciated,” Frank Antwi urged.
He called for unity within the party and prayers for the strength to live up to the values of patriotism and service that the chapter has upheld over the past three decades.
“Long Live NPP NY Chapter! Long Live NPP-USA! Long Live NPP GH! Long Live Our Motherland!” Antwi declared.
