Tongu chiefs: Okudzeto Ablakwa deserves applause not vilification

They said that their MP is delivering his constitutional mandate by exposing corrupt deals relating to the construction of the National Cathedral

Chiefs in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region say the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, deserves applause and not vilification for his fight against corruption.

They added that their MP is delivering his constitutional mandate by exposing corrupt deals relating to the construction of the National Cathedral.

The Manklalo of Dorfor traditional area, Togbe Agbohla VI, said “the amazing reputation of our MP is known. We in North Tongu believe that his effort has saved Ghana millions of dollars.”

Adding that, “This is an exceptional MP who deserves to be celebrated and not vilified or made a victim of devious machinations to be imprisoned.”

He added that the chiefs and people of Tongu have taken note of the “threats and vitriolic attacks” on Ablakwa’s personality.

He cautioned that they will not condone “those behind this shameless plot of intimidation, abuse of judiciary, harassment and evil concoctions as they seek to gag and harm our MP.”

He advised such people to desist from such acts immediately.

He warned that “should our MP suffer the slightest harm, they would not only have touched the tail of a tiger but the forehead of Tongu Danyi wo.”

He said the chiefs, elders and people of the 3 Tongu traditional areas will be in court to show their support.

Ablakwa will appear in the Accra High Court tomorrow (Tuesday 21 February). He was sued by Rev. Kusi Boateng, the secretary to the Board of trustees of the National Cathedral project.
